Bakersfield College's second athletics sanctions appeal denied

Bakersfield College's second round appeal of sanctions to its athletic program has been denied, the college announced Tuesday afternoon. The college was notified via an email dated Friday from the California Community College Athletics Association Appeals Board.

"Unfortunately, the eight-page response glosses over the good faith considerations raised by the college, and the tone of punitive authority and thinly veiled disdain is disconcerting," Dr. Sonya Christian, president of Bakersfield College, said in the news release. "While we are disappointed in both the conclusion and tone of the decision, we continue to believe in our student athletes. We will defend what is rightfully theirs, and we believe that these specific sanctions and the sanction process deserve better and more respectful deliberation."

The college says it has maintained that any athletics sanctions should be against the college only, not student athletes.

On July 9, the college filed an appeal with the CCCAA Appeals Board with another presentation of the arguments it made in a June 12 appeal to the Southern California Football Association.

The college now has 10 working days from July 22 to submit an appeal to the CCCAA Board of Directors.

BC has been forced to forfeit all regular-season wins from the 2011 and 2012 seasons, BC is ineligible for the postseason in 2013 and is on probation for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
